Reading and Composing Poetry
This course will immerse learners into the fascinating world of poetry! We will be introduced to select poems from some of the world's master poets, and learn how to read them with greater understanding and enjoyment. We will focus on the following specific topics: responding to poetry, understanding poetic form, learning the pleasure of imagery, 声音, metaphor and meaning, and discovering poetry as performance. Along the way, we will learn tips and strategies for composing one's own creative poetry. By the end of the course, participants will have the option to write their own poetry and share with their peers for feedback and enjoyment. In this course, participants will be encouraged to prepare for each class by doing some small reading assignments each week.

Instructor Lynette Cooper has been teaching in the Humanities for seven years at the college level.
